How to Keep my TP and TPA Folders Synced

If you are using TurningPoint and TurningPoint Anywhere with the same group of students, keeping the participant lists updated for both software products can be challenging. A better approach is to point TurningPoint Anywhere default folder stucture to TurningPoint folders. Take a look at the attached guide and let me know how it works!

Turningtechnologies instructor account access denied?

All of sudden, I am not allowed to access my turningtechnologies instructor account. I can not download class rosters in order to use response devices. I was also unable to contact customer service, as they are closed in the weekend.

Has anybody experienced the similar problem? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Can anyone smell the turkey and stuffing yet?!? Hmmmm...that may not be my imagination. I think it's one of the crockpots for our annual company Thanksgiving potluck coming up in just a couple of hours. Yum!

Also we wanted to let you know a couple of adjustments in our standard hours.

Turning Technologies will close today at 5:00 pm EST and be closed both Thursday and Friday this week (November 26 & 27th) in observance of the Thanksgiving fun and festivities.

We will also close Friday, December 11th at 5:00 EST.

NYC Higher Ed ARS Event Gets Great Response

On Nov. 13, 2009, St. John's University hosted a Turning Technologies-sponsored lunch-and-learn session for New York City area users. Many thanks to Sharon See of St. John's Clinical Pharmacy Practice Department for her hard work in arranging some creative and informative faculty presentations that showcased different ways to incorporate audience response technology with instruction.

Well, it seems my Halloween presentation I posted recently was well received, and I've gotten many requests for more of these presentations. So, without further ado, here's my new Thanksgiving Trivia presentation. Please feel free to download it and use it however you like. There are notes at the bottom of many of the slides, describing how the hyperlinking, scoring and competition is working. You can also change categories and questions to fit your needs (I created it with questions at the high school level).

I've been working on this event for several months now and am excited to see everything finally come to fruition. While I know not everyone is able to attend the conference, I wanted to make sure those individuals could still get a taste for what our User Conferences are all about. Online Community- Building toward learning

So 5,000+ clickers later at KSU and the learning is gaining momentum. When we started this project to standardize to one technology it was supposed to be simple-- Choose one and let it go.

There is something grand to be said about challenging one's own teaching to not be just different but better. As I was quoted in the Kent Daily Stater, "it is just a piece of plastic" (no offense TT) but in the hands of skilled faculty it is a gateway for engaged learning.

I get to go to the sessions, meet the users, and gather all kinds of best practices and pedagogical ideas for using our systems. Class and Student Registration

I have walked through the registration process for classes and then set one remote for me in one of the ASM104 classes. I used the tutorials to watch the steps for registration for the classes and decided it was a logical process and did not watch the process for the remote. That too was logical and worked fine and it was easy to find the class list and highlight what a student would need. Simple process.

Mesa Community College Pilot Study on "clickers"

Anthropology faculty at Mesa Community College will conduct a pilot student of the impacts on retention and learning as a result of use of two different "clicker technologies". We will compare retention and grade distributions from last fall and spring to what we have for this fall's semester. We are working with our Center for Teaching and Learning in this pilot.

Training Updates 5/26

We're working hard to get these tutorials completed for TurningPoint Anywhere Mac and PC. We're nearly finished with the Mac tutorials, and hope to have them done by the time the software is released. The PC ones might be a few days behind, but I think everyone will be pleased with them.

As for me, I'm getting ready to head to NC State next week, and will continue with a very busy month on the road. This looks like it's going to be a crazy summer in the training department!

FYI: The latest version of RemotePoll was released today. RemotePoll allows for polling at remote locations. Ideal for video conferencing or satellite broadcasts.

There have been significant improvements in the ease of use (No need to configure firewalls.)

One of the highlights of my position is that I’ve been able to either attend or hear about some of the more imaginative uses of student response. I know that most of your time is focused on teaching, learning activities, and engaging students in course work – a challenge I admire and respect all educators for taking on every day. The thought of 30 8 year-olds for 7+ hours intimidates me in a way words fail to express. lol

But what about the little moments you’ve carved out just for fun?

One of the first technologies that I previously worked with (I'm not saying how long ago this was.) in an educational setting was video conferencing. Washington state was in the initial stages of implementing its K-20 system across the state, connecting every college and school district to a high-bandwidth statewide video and data network.

So in my recent surfing of the internet, I came across an interesting blog post I think all you Higher Education professors, instructors, IT professionals (I feel like an actor on Oscar night, accepting my award and not wanting to leave anyone out) and everyone else, you know who you are, might enjoy. It is from Dr. Derek Bruff a noted professor and student response enthusiast.
