K-12 Educational Gaming

Alright, so my last posting offered up some ideas for the higher ed readers. This time its all about my K-12 followers. With the weather warming up in most areas of the country, I bet you are starting to have problems keeping students attention. I'm not too sure what it is, but I went through the same thing. As soon as the weather starts to warm up, kids have a one-track mind and can only think about the next time they are going to go outside, or what kind of after school activity they have that evening. So how do you keep their minds where they need to be - in the classroom? Well how about letting them play games! You heard correctly. Let them play. Now of course its educational, but don't tell them that. Check out this great list of the top 10 "Learn By Playing" educational games.

And to those of you that also have one of our student response systems in your classroom, which I suspect the vast majority of you do, a lot of these games can be used in conjunction with student response. Simply make questions based on the games and present them in an interactive polling slide. This lets you assess student learning as well as gauge the value of the educational game.

Hope this helps. Check back for more cool technology and lesson plans for your classroom.
